Hydrotherapy is the use of water for relieving pain. Water cure is the informal name given to this form of alternative medical practice. Water cure should not be confused with another water cure – a punishment system that involved drinking large amounts of water until the stomach burst.
Hydrotherapy is spread across many approaches. The popular ones exist in spas. Spas have marketed the concept of hydrotherapy effectively. Spas have water-jets that stream water onto the person to provide relief. There are also underwater massages that alleviate pain after an injury. Another popular hydrotherapy practice is the use of mineralized water. People are made to bathe in this water.
Spas have their own forms of hydrotherapy. Steam baths and sauna baths help people shed off the toxins in their body. Foot massages help alleviate pain. There is also the application of hot and cold water compresses on injury affected areas. Compresses are towels. They are soaked in hot and cold water alternatively.
Another popular treatment for migraine is wet sock treatment. Wet sock treatment is also beneficial for nasal problems, infections in the respiratory tract, and sinus.
Such treatments revitalize the body and re-instate the lost energy to it. But it is still not proven if it can be a long lasting cure. Hydrotherapy will only alleviate pain. It may do so only for a temporary period of time. The applications of hydrotherapy are many. Water possesses the potential to heal and replace lost attributes. In the modern world, this realization has brought forth an interesting alternative treatment approach.
